The Edith Hamilton and Huntington Cairns (© 1961 Bollingen Foundation) edition of Plato: The Collected Dialogues and the Benjamin Jowett 4th edition of the Dialogues (© 1951 Jowett Copyright Trustees) are presented in their entirety, with the exception of the Lane Cooper translation of Euthyphro (from Hamilton and Cairns). The name of the work is unabbreviated on the reference line which identifies each folio (paragraph, footnote, etc.). A number of Jowett translations (both from the 1892 third edition and 1953 fourth edition) were included in the Hamilton and Cairns edition; because the Hamilton and Cairns versions were Americanized and altered in certain minor respects, we have included both the Jowett fourth edition version (in the fourth edition segment) and the Hamilton and Cairns version in the Hamilton and Cairns segment.

All paragraphs have been correlated in those dialogues for which two translations appear (as well as for the duplicate Jowett translations). Thus the same number of paragraphs (folios) exist for every multiply-appearing dialogue. In order to achieve this correlation, occasionally it was necessary to either introduce or delete a paragraph break in one of the two versions. A link in parentheses appears at the beginning of every paragraph which has an alternative translation in the database; the letter "J" precedes the link in the Hamilton and Cairns edition (since the link leads to a paragraph in the Jowett edition) while the letters "HC" precede the link in the Jowett edition (since the link leads to a paragraph in the Hamilton and Cairns edition).

Where there are different translations of the same dialogue, each paragraph is linked to its corresponding paragraph in the other translation. Euthyphro (for copyright reasons) is missing from the Hamilton and Cairns edition, but is included in the Jowett.
